What is Reading Intervention?
Reading intervention is similar to tutoring but uses a structured approach designed to help individuals who struggle with reading skills. It provides targeted instruction to improve areas such as:
-
Phonemic Awareness – Understanding and manipulating sounds in words.
-
Phonics – Connecting sounds with letters and using them to read words.
-
Fluency – Reading smoothly, accurately, and with proper expression.
-
Vocabulary – Expanding knowledge of words and their meanings.
-
Comprehension – Understanding and interpreting what is read.

READING INTERVENTION
Could my child benefit from Reading Intervention?
Absolutely! I work with students in grades K-7th using an Orton-Gillingham based program called Kendore. All students start at the same point - ensuring strong foundational skills - and progresses based on the rate that best suits the student. My sessions are hands-on, multi-sensory, and game-based so that even the most reluctant reader can make gains.

FAQs
Does my child need a diagnosis?
No, I work with all struggling readers, regardless of a diagnosis.
How many sessions will my child need?
I offer 30 min, 45 min, and 1 hour sessions weekly. In order for your child to make adequate progress, we will need to meet at a minimum of once a week and potentially more depending on need. The number of sessions varies drastically between students. Ongoing check-ins with families will occur throughout to determine if the student is on track to meet their goals.
Where will we meet?
I meet with all of my students in person at their homes (in the Portland area), preferably in a space that is free from as many distractions as possible.
